Special Education Reminders

Hello RVA consortium partners.  I hope you are all starting the 2019-2020 school year well!

Special Education Adorable

I wanted to provide you with a few reminders for special education:

  1. For new students with IEPs the RVA case manager will schedule a review/revise IEP meeting.  A district representative (usually a service-provider or someone familiar with the student) should be present for the meeting.    I have sent emails asking for your preferred contacts. The sooner we can get students’ case managers and the needed transfer information the sooner we can start providing services.

  2. Your district maintains the special education records  for students in your district attending the RVA. When we request records we only need the current IEP and most recent Evaluation Report.  If you have already sent a special education file it will be sent back to your district. Files are kept in your district as you are responsible for FAPE.

  3. Your district is responsible for related services for students attending RVA (Speech, OT, PT, Adaptive PE, etc).  Our case managers will be reaching out to your related service providers for IEP information.

  4.  If you are needing services for RVA students because you are short on staff (Speech, OT, PT, 504 and IEP related-Psychologist Evaluations) we can help.  Please contact me and we can discuss the details and cost of these services.

  5. If a student from your district enters the RVA with a 504 plan, your district is responsible for maintaining and updating that plan annually.  Please contact me to ensure we get all the right people from RVA at those meetings.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at any time.  The best way to keep our partnerships strong is through open communication. I am readily available by email at sam.penry@ruralvirtual.org or by phone at 715-894-0434.

Wishing you all a great year,

Samantha Penry
