RVA’s Language League was formed to serve our partner districts in need. We provide English Language instruction to ELs in brick & mortar schools that previously did not have a licensed English Language Development teacher or who are unable to serve their EL population with current staff. EL student populations can fluctuate quickly and our partners want to be prepared with an option to provide EL services to students, even with short notice. We offer two different modes of instruction for EL students.
Live Instruction
The Live Instruction ELD program supports English Learners through a combination of daily virtual instruction and self-paced work outside the live class meetings. Live class sections are grouped by similar grade and English proficiency level. Students work through a common curriculum during live classes and an online supplement targeted to their grade and English proficiency level, with ongoing teacher feedback and local support.
Individualized Instruction
The Individualized Asynchronous ELD program supports English Learners through a flexible, self-paced model. Students work independently through an online curriculum designed for their grade level and English proficiency level, with ongoing teacher feedback and local support.
What’s included in both?
Students in grades 4K-12 who benefit most from Language League are newcomers testing at Levels 1 & 2 on their WIDA Screener or ACCESS exam.
Both programs build skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while supporting academic vocabulary and confidence in English.
RVA’s instructor assesses student work, provides feedback, and partners with an in-building Coach who receives supplemental materials to reinforce learning.
